How to refinish black high gloss bookcase?

I would like to refinish a black high gloss bookcase with gold trim. The gold trim, I think is glued to the top edge. Does anyone know how to get the trim off?? Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to how I can stain this mahogany and where to buy new cabinet knobs and drawer pulls?

First you will have to knock down the gloss by either sanding or using Paseo deglosser. Since you want to stain it, you will have to sand it down to the bare wood. Then you can use a wipe on stain and apply it until you have the color saturation you desire. Then you will have to seal it with a non-yellowing UVA/UVB protecting polyurethane with a couple of coats. How can I get Polyurethane Gloss out of paint brushes?

I'm staining my hardwood floors and using a Fast-Drying Polyurethane Clear Gloss for the finish/top coat. After putting the final coat down I let the brushes soak in a jar filled with paint thinner. So far they've been soaking for three days and it's still not coming off. I'd rather not buy new brushes if I don't have to. Is there anything else I can try to get it out of them?How can I get Polyurethane Gloss out of paint brushes?
Go to the paint solvents section of your local hardware store, and get MEK, or Methyl Ethyl Ketone.





Soak the brushes in MEK, and the polyurethane should dissolve, even if the polyurethane has dried.





If there is glue holding the bristles in the brush, the glue might also soften. But at this point, you might end up buying new brushes anyway. It's worth a try.





MEK is a VERY volatile solvent, and you should always use care when working with it. The fumes from this solvent will strip the paint from anything that gets too close to it, so don't leave the can sitting next to the fender on your car. Use it in a well-ventilated area. What I have always done is to purchase the cheapest brush possble to do the job and when finished for the day, throw it away, not worth the time and trouble to clean it. Start the next seeeion with a new brush. Or try to do the whole job at one time. Just a thought, there should have been ';clean-up'; directions on the container.

probably a light brown or caramel or something to brighten your highlights.
Pantene expressions for brunettes, i use it and it works wonders.
get highlights a few shades lighter than your natural hair color, do me a favor hunn, get them dome professionally, because at home kits, they always fail.

apply lip balm or chapstick before you put your lipgloss on. the chapstick help holds onto the lipgloss there for keeping it on longer. same goes for lipstick. goodluck[:

How do you paint over gloss?

We have some indoor trim that needs painting. In some places knots are bleeding through. Kilz or Zinser was used originally to deal with the knots. I assume not enough of that stain killer was applied.How do you paint over gloss?
Kilz or Zinzer primers will help a lot, but nothing will work very well while it is still shiny. Your best bet is to lightly sand the surface and then wipe it with a tack cloth, or use a liquid deglosser, or at least wash it with TSP before painting.How do you paint over gloss?
u have to wait till the paint dries
lightly sand until the gloss finish is gone. then prime with two or three base coats. Folow up with your finishing color. you should get the primer in a tinted color as it will help the knots from showing through. ( like if you want to paint red, go for a dark pink tinted primer. Kilz makes tinted primer and tinted paint now. )

You could try liquid baby soap on a warm, damp wash cloth. Make sure not to get it in his eyes. Then, rinse with a fresh warm, damp wash cloth. If it doesn't all come off, sooner or later, your cat will eventually get the rest of the lip gloss off his face.
use a wet towel and wipe it off while pinning him down so he doesnt run away. or just wait he can wipe it off himself. have u ever seen ur cat do that? lick his paws and then use the wettish paw to wipe his whole face? my cat cleans his whole face that way

Why not look online at some DIY stores in your area and see what kind of paint they stock. It's worth a try. I may just do that too. :)
I don't know if you can. Next time you buy gloss paint, look for the ones which claim they remain white, then they shouldn't yellow with age.
always shake the can well with the lid on before you use, because the paint separates over time. if the paint is still showing yellow on surface stir will with a stick until the yellow goes.
stir it up!.. it is just the oil base having seperated after standing for a long time
