OH WOW. it is not little kiddish at all. what you wanna do is get one that is clear but with ultra shine (it will say it on the bottle)....or just get one with a little tint of color. it will look hott. dont worry.
find one nice for your skin tone... no bright, orange, clown lip gloss any more. if you dont know what is good for your tone, go with neutral or clear. those are always cute!
I use to feel the same way. But then I realized that it doesn't look little kiddish it just looks nice and young looking. You might want to try a tinted lip gloss that might help you stop thinking of it as a little kid product. Or at least one that adds some color as it adds its shine. Good luck.

They are not the same thing. Chap Stick keeps your lips from being chapped but it makes them rough. Guys don't like kissing a girl with Lip Stick because it smudges and leaves stuff on the guys face. I think lip gloss looks nice and can taste pretty good too (at least the fruity flavors)...but not if there's too much, cause then it's just a total mess. It's gooey and just a pain. you don't want to stack more paint on it so you need to scrape the old paint off. then you could do the color you want.
Sand it down first.. some gloss finishes can cause flaking of your new paint over time and you will see the blue coming through.





The best way is to sand it down first, to take away the glossy finish, and perhaps even some of the paint. then go back over the wall with a primer. Wait for it to dry! then go back with your favorite color.





I once sanded down a wall for a friend, that had some really nasty flat chocolate brown on it... I sanded but leaft a little shade of the paint on the wall and it blended nicely with the natural wood underneath.. it made it look really rich. I decided to forget the paint. and just go with a sealer. looks nice.

If you want to do the job properly take the paint off. You could use a paint stripper to remove it. Then sandpaper it to get a smooth surface. Next you can use a primer, but if you like you can just use an undercoat and then the top coat of your chosen colour. If you do this the finished result will look better and will wear better and last longer.

take a chip of the paint to a paint store. not a walmart a paint store. Ask what kind of paint it is and they can help you. It sounds like you will need to use a product like KILZ on it because of the shiny aspect you may have to sand it first.

That sounds about right.





It isn't abnormal that a second coat takes longer. Even though the first coat can dry in a hour, it only fully hardens in days to come. Second coat is influenced by that. And glad it is because that helps make it a smooth layer.





it should be good in 2 days but fully hardened may take a week.. or even longer.
That varnish will dry quickly. It should be completely dry if it is in fact acrylic varnish. Completely dry in 12 hours or sooner according to humidity and temperature.
Windsor %26amp; Newton sells both an oil based varnish and an acrylic varnish. If you used the water-based varvish the first coat should have been dry to the touch within an hour under average room tempertures. The second coat within two hours after it was applied over the first. The only reasons I can think of why they haven't completely dried is perhaps because there is a lot of humidity or mosture where you live or you used really thick coats of paint. But even with a thick coat of acrylic varnish it still should have dried within hours.





But let me make several suggestions:





Why would you use a gloss varnish on a painting? If you ever decide to photograph it this will be virtually impossible because the gloss will produce a glair and the photograph will not show the painting's true colors. And using a flash would be impossible because the flash would reflect off the glossy surface and wash out much of the painting. It would be very difficult to ever reproduce.





Most artists use a varnish (or clear coat) that is matte finish, meaning a clear neutral coat that does not shine or reflect light and does not produce glair.





And the little jars of Windsor %26amp; Newton varnishes are too damn expensive for serious artist who paint a lot of paintings. Most of the serious artists I've known (myself included) these days use acrylic polymer varnishes with UVLS protection. You can buy these in spray cans (the most popular brand is Krylon) or in quarts. Or you can buy liquid or spray forms of clear polyurethane. Both Krylon and Golden (which is much more expensive) offers these. And you can buy polyurethane spray or liquid clearcoats at places that sell house paints, places like Home Depot or any hardware store.

I use only naturally based, organically derived products that work better than anything on the market. Because I mention it is an oil, you may think of ';grease'; in relation to oil, this is not greasy, in combination mentioned in the Sol-U-Mel it is a very effective solvent that can even remove nail polish naturally. As for whitening and keeping colors safe, my clothes have never looked better and had less lint since I began using MelaBrite color safe brightener made especially for what you describe. Try Swarfega. It's a waterless hand cleaner and degreaser which you should be able to get from a decent hardware shop or Halfords. It always works on emulsion and nearly always works on wet gloss paint.

Baby Wipes! Removes it from hands anyway... Poor babies, must be strong stuff.

Lip Poison gloss would be one. Look for some of the more expensive brands, they usually have it. Just remember that where stars are concerned, looking neutral, fresh and natural is harder to achieve.

Semi-gloss is halfway between eggshell and gloss paint, halfway between barely shiny and very shiny. You can use it if you want, it's your bedroom, but it tends to show up every little flaw in a wall, and they all have them, and it looks a bit harsh because it's shiny. It looks a bit institutional in a bedroom but it's okay in a kitchen or bathroom though not many people even use it there these days.
im thinking semi-gloss is a step below high gloss. depends on how shiny you want your walls. lowes and home depot usually have a chart that shows you the difference. most of the time its just personal preferance or it might depend on what room your putting it in.

I am a hairdresser and there isn't really anything called hair gloss, you might be thinking of hair serum, which is a thick glossy substance you can put on wet or dry hair. Put a tiny drop(like a size of a pea) and run it through your hair before drying. Or use the same tiny amount after drying your hair to calm flyaways and make hair feel silky. I also use it before a flat iron as a barrier between the iron and the hair shaft. Good brands: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, Biosilk Serum, Redken Glass or ask you stylist, she probably sells the brand of serum she's using on your hair.

I would go with Blistex its the best thing and you can put ligloss/lipstick over it but its not too shiny and it does the job. The purpose of it is for dry lips and itsmedicated. Go with medicated brands I use blistex and its worked wonders;)

In my last apt the trim was done in all high gloss. You have two options:


Your first option is to get a fine grit sand paper and sand down all the trim. After you sand it you have to wipe it clean with a terry cloth to remove any dirt or debri so that the primer you put on will take better.


OR


You can get liquid sandpaper. You can find it at Lowe's or Home Depot. Follow the directions on the label. Its very easy and effective. This is the method I did and it saves a lot more time than sanding. Either way, you're still gonna want to prime over the dark color if you don't plan on going back over it with another dark color.

If you want the color and not the gloss you can get a Matte finish sealer from most Sherwin-Williams stores. It is clear - you may need to buff the surface of the existing finish to give it 'tooth' usually 3M Scotchbrite pads work well for this(the green ones)
you have to take at least 2000grit sand paper and rough up all trim you want to paint. this will give the new paint a surface to bond to. after that is done, just take a cotton cloth, no cleaner, and wipe off the access debit from the pieces you want to paint. apply a coat of primmer and then use flat base paint. the trim should come out just the way you want it...............

The easiest thing to do is to scrape off any loose flakes then rub the paintwork down with 80 grade sanpaper and paint over it either with a gloss which needs no undercoat, or undercoat then gloss
No sand paper . Sand paper is uneven and more work . steel wool or those new pads that are abrasives usually red available at hard ware stores . they replace steel wool and work better and get in the crevasses unlike sand paper and sand paper fills up quick. The pads you just shake . All you have to do is scuff the gloss paint in order for new paint of all types to stick. Now being a dark color you will have to prime or use two or three coats of paint. I recommend Kilts primer . It is a very good primer.
You can lightly sand the surface and apply a good primer (like Kilz). You may need two coats if you're going over it with a much lighter color. Then use a good latex satin finish or eggshell, whichever you prefer.
Best bet would be to use paint remover - but read the warnings, on the can - that stuff is VERY toxic.
Hand sand the trim to create ';scuff marks'; medium to fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down with damp cloth to remove dust and let dry 20 min. Prime the trim with white primer(spray) using a piece of stiff cardboard as not to ';over spray'; onto the walls. Then paint your trim using another piece of cardboard. A Respirator should be used if using spray paints.
You do not need to prime. You only prime new bare surfaces so that they can take the following coats of paint. Sometimes you have to seal previously painted surfaces if there is a problem.





What you describe is simply an unattractive dark colour. So you paint in the normal way, but you may have to do an extra coat of undercoat to stop the dark colour grinning through.





Rub down the current surface in order to provide a 'key' to increase the adherence of your next coat of paint. Then apply one or two undercoats until the existing colour has disappeared. Then put your finish coat of paint, usually semi-gloss (eggshell) or full gloss as you prefer (both require undercoat). The store owner will give you the correct undercoat for the finish coat that you want.

When you have applied your lip gloss put a tissue over your lips and give a fine dust with talcum powder. Alternatively you can use Vaseline instead of gloss i personally find the Vaseline works best.

lightly sand, apply primer (kilz, flat wall paint, etc) let dry then apply 1-2 coats top coat with a satin finish
With all due respect to you and others who have answered, I offer this. No ego involved.





I've applied thousands of gallons of paint, and Primer is often valid, but not strictly neccesary in the industry.





I just applied KILZ for the purpose of covering water staining. It was OIL based. After, I painted a LATEX satin, and it worked fine.





The issue has little to do with the SHEEN of the paint,,, as the properties of a paint from flat to gloss, in a latex, only means that more polymers/ gloss substances have been added to achieve various levels of finish.





Certainly you might expect to paint 2 coats of the finish coat, but you might have to do that over a primer anyway. Actually the fact that a gloss or SEMI, over any finish almost always requires multiple coats, not always the other way around.





Besides all that... To use the finish coat as your PRIME allows that you're merely covering the desired color with another coat of the same, not trying to cover a White, or other primer base color.

You have several choices:





1. Sand the glossy area prior to painting


2. Apply a liquid deglosser to the glossy paint prior to painting


3. Use a primer which is formulated so that it can be applied directly to the glossy paint.
Prime it with a good quality primer. You do NOT need to sand it. Do not waste your time. Once you prime over the current coat, you can paint over with satin paint of any kind. Valspar is recommended as a paint brand, as they provide thick coverage.
You're going to have to prime over the gloss paint before applying the satin paint. If you don't, the stain paint won't stick properly and will end up peeling off.





If in doubt whether the gloss is oil or latex based, just use oil based primer.

You wouldn't be able to see how nice a Christian Dior lipgloss could look if the person advertising it was spotty with a small thin mouth. In fact most people would be put off buying it. i use too faced lip injection this seems to work quite well but does sting for a while

Semi-gloss is better than flat because the shimmer adds dimension. The more shine though, the more irregularities in the surface show up.





Also, white does not always make a small room look bigger. Your eye will ';stop'; at the brighter color, where a muted or darker color can add depth.
It depends on the room.





Some basic facts regarding interior paints:





You have a choice of various sheens each of which have different qualities and bonuses and drawbacks.





Flat:





low sheen (very little reflection from light sources) therefore you will have a more saturated (deeper looking to the eye) colour. Flat paint is mostly used as a cheap alternative in new construction but is also now being used in high quality paints for a depth of colour and for a ';suede'; look in interiors.


The drawback with flat paint is it is not the least ';wearable';. It easily shows any scratches and marks left on the wall. I would only recommend using a decorator flat in a formal sitting room with low traffic or a master bedroom or guest room. Not good for high traffic rooms.





Eggshell:





One of the most used finishes. Eggshell has a low-lustre reflection. It's softer and doesn't give off a high glare. It's more durable than flat and great for living rooms, dining rooms, family rooms and bedrooms. You can also paint a powder room in eggshell unless it's being used regularly by kids than a more washable paint is recommended.





Satin/Pearl:





Very durable. More shiny than eggshell. The amount of reflection or sheen varies greatly depending on the paint manufacturer. Great for high traffic family rooms, rec rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kid's bedrooms.





Semi-gloss:





There is a fair amount of shine to semi-gloss. It's highly durable and washable. Great for trim, moulding, chair rails, doors, etc. I would not recommend painting walls with a semi-gloss.








So, I would take into account the room you are painting and how it is used and choose the type of paint from that.

A flat or an eggshell is better for walls. semi-gloss and gloss are more used for trim. The eggshell and flat hide imperfections in the wall better.
The shinier the paint the more obvious any imperfections in the wall will be. This is the reason that construction companies always use a flat paint on interior walls, so that any goof-ups in building the house won't be obvious. Eggshell is probably your best bet since it's easier to cut in without showing the difference between the brushed and rolled areas. Flat works best for this, but gets dirty very easily and is the hardest to clean.

How do i paint this with a gloss finish?

It's all about preparation and taking lots of time with every step. First, get the tank blasted with a soft media like walnut shells. How to get wax off a high gloss black table?

I spilt candle wax on the coffee table and thanks to your tips, removed it with a credit card. However, the wax has left a surface mark on the high gloss black finish. Lay a piece of kitchen roll on top of the wax and direct a hairdryer onto the paper. Hold the paper down with your hands and use the lowest blower setting and the highest heat setting. Or you could use an iron, make sure you hold it about 5cm away from the paper.


If you don't like either of those ideas, you could try liquid paraffin, but try it out on an inconspicuous area first. Wax candles are often made from paraffin.


Kitchen paper will not dissolve. The important thing is that the paper (or fabric even) is absorbent. A J cloth would also do.
You would be better off using brown paper instead of kitchen roll as you run the risk the paper dissolving and sticking to the table as well!


The only thing i know of to remove wax is heat!


If you have a set of heated rollers you could try rolling the HEATED roller over the brown paper which should remove the wax onto the paper from the area and should not scorch your table! make sure you use a oven mitt for touching the heated roller!

I'm not sure where you're at, but handwashing it and letting it air dry is the safest way to go. Do not use harsh detergents either. Focus on the stain and then rinse the whole jacket is warm water and then let it air dry in the sun.

It is easier to make a paint darker but very tricky trying to make it lighter.
You can mix them as long as both are latexes..However as a 37 year experienced painter..let me tell you..the pearl finish of benjamin moore really sucks..it will not touch up properly if you ding the wall etc and will require painting the whole wall over again..Benjamin Moore adds a little oil based paint to thier latex paint ,which is called ';fortified';..and it is not user friendly, the coverage is poor, and clean up is rough on the tools....I stay completely away from Benjamin Moore and use Sherwin williams...I have had so many problems with benjamin Moore by them not matching the paint properly when more is needed..and the drying time as well.. I had some exterior shudders done with it that took 2 weeks to dry before I could re hang them..thier deep tone [paints especially..

I know you tried white spirit and it didn't work...this would be the first thing i'd reach for too. So i cant think of anything as such that will lift the paint from your carpet.





Gloss paint is very difficult to remove but if there are only a few drops try cutting the very top of the paint away from the carpet using sharp manicure scissors or a razor to gently shave the dried in paint and carpets fibres away.





In the future...if you have gloss spills on fabric or carpets...cover it with a sheet of cling film or polythene to stop it from drying while you gather a few things to clean the spill up.

goof off . Hmm if spirits don't work and is still moist is it a water based paint?
Paint brush cleaner will help but try it on a bit of covered carpet first in case it makes the carpet dye run. If it is a big patch and you have spare carpet it can be cut out and a patch fitted. Removing the paint will take many attempts if it has dried solid.
Try Paint stripper, they sell tins called Nitromore in DIY stores, but try on a small bit of carpet out of site before you use it to make sure it doesn't take the colour out
i used sandpaper, then used washin-up liquid to get rid of the residue left.

Semi gloss paper is kinda shiny, matt paper has no shine and is kind dull. I like matte better because there will not be a glare on the surface.
depends on your printer, they are both coated papers one just has a matte finish if your imaging with a lazer printer it wont matter because the toner will stay on top of the paper so the only place that will be real shiny will be the white parts but if your using a ink jet or a wet toner printer the gloss will be a shiner finish, i hope this helps you i am a printer by trade

The best paints are oil-based and would be Dulux or Sikkens. Sikkens AZ Rubbol has the highest gloss I have ever seen, but can be tricky to apply.

Well, if you're re-painting it, then you need to scrape what's coming off, sand the edges of the scraped areas to smooth the surface some %26amp; then what I'd do is prime the bare wood w/an oil primer (this is called a spot-prime)%26amp; if you really want it to last re-prime the whole door w/an oil primer %26amp; then finally put two top-coats in a latex of the appropriate sheen on top of that.


The wood has to be dry before any priming should happen or the whole thing's an exercise in futility.


If you're worried about potential lead in the paint or don't like prep-work you can take it somewhere to be stripped chemically %26amp; that'll leave you w/a door that mostly needs just sanding, tho' my favorite tool for something like this is the silent paint remover which uses infrared to heat the wood %26amp; break the paint bond that way, but it's a pricey option if all you're concerned with is this door.
You need to prep it properly. That means scraping off all the flaky bits, then sanding with wet and dry/sandpaper. Fill any damaged areas with a two part wood filler %26amp; sand flat. Prime any areas of exposed wood, and areas that you have filled, then 2 coats of undercoat - oil based is best. De-nib, ie, a light sand with finer wet and dry to get rid of any minor imperfections. Lastly 2 coats of really good quality gloss paint. Do not use the one coat stuff, it looks OK to start off with, but not for long. If you are in the UK, my favoured brand of gloss is permaglaze. It's really hard, shiny, and does not discolour. You have to watch out for runs though, since its very liquid.
Take it back to the timber.


Sandpaper thoroughly to minimise imperfections


Remove all dust


Apply a good quality Primer with a quality brush


Allow to dry


Apply a good quality Gloss sparingly/evenly with quality brush


Allow to dry.

If you're painting it, use a high gloss paint. If you're not, you can by a clear gloss that you just paint on at any hardware store.
sand down....prime...undercoat...gloss...(but don`t bother in this weather...much too cold...you will never get a gloss finish..it will go flat)..some bad ';I know what I`m doing'; advice on this list...
to do it properly strip it first then prime then undercoat then gloss follow drying times carefully a fair amount of work but worth it if you want it to last

yeah i have tried it but it makes your lips tingle/burn and it gets pretty annoying and yuck. it makes a little difference but if i were you i would just go with regular shiny lip gloss and line your lips with a pencil because that makes it pop. good luckk
I've never used it but I really don't need it lol! Even though I used this lip gloss once that really did work because I could feel it in my lips. It stung a little but I cant remember what it was called sorry lol!

you can try the cobbler shops. they should stock the cloths and perhaps a polish that gives higher gloss. but be prepared to pay more than the usual you can get at supermarketsWhere can I buy KIWI parade gloss shoe polish and kiwi flannel polishing cloth in Singapore?

First, wash that spot with shampoo for oily hair and rinse well. Spray it with hairspray to lock the oil in one place and then wash it with baking soda( by hand to rub the soda deeply into the stain). Rinse it well. Depending on how much is there, you may have to do this twice and for goodness' sakes DON'T use bleach! Use oxy 10. Go to wal mart and buy it. It's good for all kind of stain.
put ice on the stain make sure the ice was small dipped in bleach
Put shout on them and let it set overnight then wash them. If it is still not all out then do it again. Just don't put them in the dryer if the stain isn't all out.
Try hairspray, or try baking soda, with baking soda use it as a paste, let soak with hairspray or backing soda.

i tried the at - home gloss , it su***d! dying your hair is bad when you go lighter, its not as bad if you go dark.....If your worried try herbal essence , no amonia or peroxide :)

How to remove years of old gloss paint?

Stripping it would work but it is not easy and is messy and time consuming, and is expensive for a job that size. You could sand it first to get most of the paint off and that would reduce your cost and time using the stripper. I would invest in a palm sander if you don't have one to get most of it off and then strip. I am house painter and I know just how much work is involved stripping and I hate doing it!
