at least seven days and use very fine grain sandpaper or you will scratch it. even better use waterproof carborundum paper and green soap but make sure you get rid of the soap otherwise the next coat of paint wont dry. the magic word is, ultra clean.
this from a time served tradesmam ( retired )How long should you leave gloss paint till you can sand it?
I would wait a week or two before trying to sand the door. You want to make sure the paint is completely dry or you'll have another nice big mess.
if the paint as bubled .you can expect 2/3 days before it`s dry.
firstly there is nothing wrong with using sponge rollers, they are designed for this they will apply the gloss evenly to the door, the little 4in sponge roller is perfect for this use it along with a brush, paint an area of the door with your mini roller then lay it off (go over) with with brush to get rid of the little bubbles this is what your hubby forgot to do, as for drying well that depends how much gloss was put on the door usually overnight and its dry you will know when its dry by touching it if its still tacky then leave it a little longer, you may also need to touch up the areas you sand with undercoat, and if you find that your gloss is a bit thick when you come to re-paint and not spreading well put a drop of white spirit in, this will loosen it and it will spread alot better and you will find it easier to use, i always prefer to use non drip gloss when I'm on a job its alot quicker and easier to use and Ive got time then for one more cup of tea.........two sugars please
edit: just to add you should lightly sand the whole door you should never gloss over gloss without doing this
leave it for the recommended drying time on the tin, then add 24 hours to that.If in doubt it is much better to wait longer otherwise you run the risk of having to strip the door and starting again this time with a brush
Why paint it when you want to sand it? get in tune with your hubby and agree on what you want.
You should leave it for at least 24 hours. If it is outside I'd give it longer. If you start sanding and the paint sticks to the sandpaper then you need to leave it longer.
I have never used a roller for gloss but a good brush so that you dont get the bubbles. It takes about 2 days for gloss to dry
24 hours is usually enough on internal doors, short hair gloss rollers are better than sponge, and use top quality paint, works out cheaper in the long term
i would say leave it 24hours.
It needs to be completely dry, 2-3 days and then you need to get a decorator in and make hubby pay.
