I'm looking for a nice darkish (blue granite or slate effect) worktop for a new bathroom I'm planning. But every one I've found has a gloss finish. Surely matt would be more effective at hiding splashes and watermarks. Why are they always gloss? Why are all bathroom worktops gloss?
* A granite laminate for your bathroom vanity is available in every color/texture and best with a matte finish for hiding spills and scratches.
http://kitchen-counter-tops.net/laminate鈥?/a>
You can buy honed (unpolished) granite which has a matte finish, but you have to seal it, otherwise any splashes, toothpaste, make up, shaving cream, etc. have to be wiped up right away because it shows stains compared to polished granite.
http://www.onlinetips.org/honed-granite-鈥?/a>
Slate countertops are honed to a smooth matte finish, because it is non-porous, after installation it only needs a light coat of mineral oil and then it can be cleaned with any household cleaner. Why are all bathroom worktops gloss?
If you're in the UK, have a look at the worktops in Homebase, there are matt and gloss versions of nearly all the designs (see link) and there is a sample book in all their stores so you can see the actual item. They also provide cutting and delivery services (at a small premium).
Make sure you get the matching end strips and seal the raw edges properly before you add the end strips or the amounts of water in the bathroom will swell and burst your nice new worktop in weeks! Be sure to seal the back edge as well and be especially careful to seal any sink cut-outs you make before fitting the porcelain.
The end strips, once glued into place, need to be filed to shape like you would file off a large and annoying finger nail, with a large flat joiner's file, going in one direction along the length of the strip.
When you have put the worktop in place, use masking tape as a guide for your silicone sealant. Just run a straight piece of tape about 1cm above the worktop on your tiles or back wall, press down firmly so there are no bubbles and apply the sealant, wipe it in with a wet finger or shaping tool then remove the masking tape to leave a lovely clean straight line.
Hi
You can get matt finish...a good tip - a family member used kitchen work top in his bathroom as it was matt that he was after and like you it was harder to find. It looked exactly the same as the bathroom stuff but was half the price and does exactly the same job...
x
The reason bathroom surfaces are usually glossy is because glossy surfaces tend to withstand moisture better and do not absorb stains nearly as much as matte surfaces do. (Matte surfaces tend to be porous.)
Glossy surfaces are also much easier to clean.
They aren't all gloss finish - you just have to look around. I've seen lighter coloured ones in a matt finish at Wickes. Keep looking or google it. Our own is matt but in cream.

How do I get black gloss paint off a carpet?
I just had my new charcole grey carpet layed today and while moving recently painted furniture back into the room I've managed to to drag black gloss paint accross the carpet. Please help, I think I'm going to cry.How do I get black gloss paint off a carpet?
white spirit i have used it in the past, and its the cheapest option. That will put a smile back on ur face. How do I get black gloss paint off a carpet?
contact a carpet shampooer asap because they clean it proffesionally and it'll look great. till then leave it, because you don't wanna make it worse and the guy might even give you some tips. thats what i did when i dropped a massive dollop of chocolate brown on my cream carpet and it looks as good as new.

since your carpet is brand new, i'd say call a professional cleaner in asap. if it was older i'd try petrol on it, that removes paint but shouldnt harm the colour. then you steam it to get rid of petrol smell, when dry sprinkle with bicarb of soda and vacuum.

What brand of printer should I buy to print flyers using gloss paper?
I need to print 3000 flyers on gloss flyer paper. Which brand of laser printer should I buy. Also, flyer paper is expensive when bought at staples. Is there cheaper bulk buy of the flyer paper? Thanks! What brand of printer should I buy to print flyers using gloss paper?
Yowsa. 3000 on a home or small office printer? Are these going to be full-color with lots of ink, or will they be mostly text and maybe only black and one other color? If the cost of paper is an issue, bear in mind that replacing all the cartridges twice or more during the run isn't going to be cheap, either.
Talk to a medium-sized independent printer about a job like this, because you really should investigate whether this should be done digitally on an industrial color printer or run on a real offset press. Professional production machines create a much better product in terms of color and ink quality and integrity, and if gloss is very important to you we get our paper at about half the price of Staples. Depending on the final size of the flyers, it can get quite inexpensive to do these professionally; certainly it's almost never cheaper to do anything at home unless you're doing fewer than 50 or 100 prints.
Full 8.5 x 11s are your most expensive option, but if the flyers will be half- or quarter-pages, then they only need to run 1500 or even 750 full sheets and then cut them down. Looking at one of my wholesale books, I'm seeing a retail price for 3000 postcards (4x6) full color on one side for about $400.
If you decide that you want to do it yourself after all, great, but make sure you check out all your options (not at Staples).
Good luck!new hair styles

How can i remove gloss paint from jeans ?
I have a brand new pair worn only once and husband splashed gloss paint on them (by accident he says) i really need to get it off any ideas please, apart from binning them, i really like them. How can i remove gloss paint from jeans ?

paint thinner will work but you're going to wash the hell out of them to get the smell out.
Check the paint tin and see what they recommend for cleaning brushes.
If it's old-fashioned gloss paint where you clean the brushes in white spirit, soak the jeans in white spirit - but be quick, one it's dried you're stuck with it. Once all the paint has come out, wash them with a bio powder.
If it's non-drip gloss where you clean the brushes in water, soak the jeans in COLD water with a bio detergent. Once the paint is out, put them through your normal wash.
terps, DONT use bleach
gojo hand cleaner

Does anyone have white gloss kitchen cupboards and wood effect laminate worktops?
I am having these units fitted soon and just wondered what colour tile/wall paint scheme's people had used? Alot I've have white tiles and cupboards - is this too white? Any ideas?Does anyone have white gloss kitchen cupboards and wood effect laminate worktops?
My cabinets and counters are white, but I have a cobalt blue paint color on my walls. The blue is a nice color since my appliances are white too. When I first moved in my house, everything was white, including the walls. It looked like a dentist's office. The color calms down the whiteness of the kitchen.Does anyone have white gloss kitchen cupboards and wood effect laminate worktops?

How do i remove gloss paint from clothing?
My partner manages to get it everywhere. How do i remove gloss paint from clothing?
I have successfully removed gloss paint with paint stripper. The garment is ruined anyway so it's worth a go.How do i remove gloss paint from clothing?
If it's still wet, use plenty of white spirit and a cotton rag,
If dry, throw the item away
Can you use spirit on clothes?
next time use crown plus 2 or berger magicote as both paints wash out.
You can get it off with white spirit but it will leave the garment faded on that area...
In future make him move things before he starts splashing it all over...
Buy new clothes and make him pay for them....lol
If it's still wet, white spirit. If it has dried, u can't.
kirsty i'm afraid its bad news the clothing will never be the same even if you manage to get the gloss off with white spirit it will fade so the best thing to do is save the clothing for decorating in then you wont ruin anything else
hope this helps hun
If it's latex paint, try Krud Kutter (available where paint is sold)
methylated white spirit or turpentine

How do you get gloss paint off carpet?
i have recenlty had new carpets put in my house and after painting a unit i moved it into aroom then realised it hadnt dried i havent attepmted to remove it with anything yet.How do you get gloss paint off carpet?
Put a rug or piece of furniture over it until you decide on a course of action! How do you get gloss paint off carpet?
If it's plush carpet, and the paint is just on the top, try using scissors to cut off the part with paint Report Abuse
Either sugar soap, or washing up liquid in warm water.
Don't use terpintine or white spirit it'll damage the carpet
Check your home insurance, they replaced my carpet when my kid spilt a tin of gloss on it.
Let it dry completely, put ice in a bag and lay it over paint mark until its very very cold(almost frozen) you shuld now be able to gently scrape off the paint, and if any residue is left, repeat process, alternatively use meths or white spirit, but take care as using this spreads the paint into a larger area. Then wash gently with soap and water
If it's still wet cover and rub in swafega gell then wash out i don't know if i have spelt it right
If it's a small area then try a gel type hand cleaner like Gojo. Squeeze some on a rag and wipe it over the affected area and let it sit for awhile. Then rub it with a soft brush then a damp sponge.
Personally I would try turps in a small area, if thats OK try the rest, if the paint is just on the surface you may even be able to ';shave'; it from the surface with a Stanley knife blade, if its deeper there are some specialists in yellow pages
IT DEPENDS WHETHER IT IS WATER OR SOLVENT BASED.IT ALSO DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF CARPET YOU HAVE (ie) wool, wool-mix or synthetic.I WOULD ADVICE YOU LEAVE IT AND PHONE A CARPET CLEANER ASAP.IF YOU SCRUB AT IT OR APPLY OTHER THINGS IT WILL MAKE IT WORSE.

How do I avoid the ripple effect when I spray gloss laquer on my motorbike plastics?
Hi there, I have finished painting all my bike plastics and they look real good. Problem is I need to finish it off with a laquer but when I tested it it leaves like a ripple effect on the surface. Is there any way of avoiding this? If I wet n dry the laquer it makes it smooth but then it becomes a matt finish. I am using innotec clearcoat. How do I avoid the ripple effect when I spray gloss laquer on my motorbike plastics?
are u using premixed in a can or 2pac in a gun?...
do a couple of ''misty'' coats of topcoat, then a heavy coat....even after you wet/dry it you can use rubbing compound/G3 and or T-cut to buff it back to gloss.....
ive sprayed 1000's of bikes. How do I avoid the ripple effect when I spray gloss laquer on my motorbike plastics?
For a novice paint sprayer the easiest way of getting a good finish is to not worry about how it looks when you've first sprayed it.
Just make sure you get a good covering of lacquer and leave it overnight. Then wet flat it with 1500 wet and dry paper which, as you say, will give it a matt finish.
The secret then is to polish it by using Farecla G3 Cutting Compound and plenty of water. This will bring the shine back and it can be finished off with a wax polish.
Clear lacquer is a little difficult for a novice to spray, you can't see the build up,it's clear.so you have a tendency to miss apply.Gun distance should be 8-10'; from surface.Best spray many thin coats with 5-10 mins in between. And if your brave enough the last coat should be 80%thinners 20% lacquer. The thinner rich coat will float it all together.Be warned,if you get this right,no polishing/rubbing down will be needed,Get it wrong ie too much applied,it'll run right off.
Sounds like you are spraying a bit to close, spray from a slightly further distance. Try it on a bit of scrap to perfect the distance.
It is all in the distance of the nozzle from the work and the speed at which you move your hand. Practice on some other material first.
several thin coats are much better than 1 thin coat
and they wont ripple

How to make lip gloss last through dinner?
I am going on a few dinners with my fianc茅's family this weekend, and I want to keep a red pink lip gloss on through dinner even though my lips are going to touch the wine glass a few times. What should I do? By the way, I don't really like lipstick, because it looks too dramatic on my very fair face (and I want to look effortlessly %26amp; naturally beautiful), but I can accept it if there are no other solutions.
And I would also very much appreciate it if you don't suggest frequent touch-ups. Thanks. How to make lip gloss last through dinner?
Through my previous times, I have been going out for dinners with friends, family, and obviously, to LOOK nice, I've added some kind of lip gloss/stick. Mostly lip gloss, because it looks glossy.
Here's a few tips that might help you ;;
Put Stilife underneath the lip gloss, so the gloss has something to hold on to.
Make finer coats, it works as well.
Use a lipstick 'sealer' underneath the gloss.
Apply with a lip brush, a fine tip one.
Hope you enjoy. =DHow to make lip gloss last through dinner?
Unless you buy one of those long last lip glosses or lipsticks it will for sure come off during dinner. I don't like the long wear lipsticks because after a while you get the separation of the inner lip n outer lip with the color. I suggest to apply it before you meet them and then after dinner excuse yourself and apply in the bathroom, NEVER at the dinner table or in front of them, that's just rude. Plus it will kill the illusion of your effortless beauty. ;)new hair styles

What type of lip gloss will work for me?
I have fairly dark skin (I'm Italian) and I can never find a good lip gloss that works well with me. If you could recommend some that might work. Also, I'm kind of on a budget so if you could make sure that it is also a reasonable price that would be great. Thanks so much and if anyone else has any other make up tips for me (brown eyes, brown hair, medium dark skin) that would be great! Pictures also work too. What type of lip gloss will work for me?
Your description sounds like you look just like me and I always have the same problem especially because I have more of an olive skin tone.
If your on a budget, I bought two shades from Walmart by Wet %26amp; Wild that look really good on my skin.
1) Wet %26amp; Wild Mega Slicks Lip Gloss - Rose Gold (This is a bronze lip gloss with a hint of pink in it. Looks very cute on!)
2) Wet %26amp; Wild Mega Slicks Lip Gloss - Cherish (This one is a sheer pink. I usually find that pinks look a little funny on my skin tone but this one is so sheer and shiny that it just looks great)
Im not positive on how much I spent on them but probably no more than a few dollars a piece. What type of lip gloss will work for me?
I think that a browny red would work well for you.
Try Loreal the one whcih lasts for ages in a browny red.
Or you could try a really nice clear gloss natural collections have great colours in boots for 1.95 they are just as good as any other you could try a bright pink that would look really coolx
I'd say try natural collection at boots then or you could use a lipstick with a a clear gloss over the top from natural collection it'd cost you about 4 pound for a lipstick and gloss that would look nice.
Or you can get three things for a fiver.
Good Look xx
Hope I helped xx
I'm thinking a carmel or dark rose shade for daytime. You could try deep maroon for evenings. E.L.F and NYC cosmetics are relatively cheap ($2.50 for cosmetic brushes)
Uh, maybe you should try, a light red color. Or maybe a purpley color. Or maybe a glittery purple.
Dark brown color will be perfect for you(I think).
Browny , not too light.
Or a completely see through one.

How do you get gloss paint of the plastic pvc window frames?
Paint remover will melt the pvc. Does any one know of a product. also dont want to scratch the pvc. cheers sad decorator man!How do you get gloss paint of the plastic pvc window frames?
I'm gonna assume it's water based paint, if so use a liquid sander like ';Wil-Bond'; paint deglosser. Paint remover would work too, just put the solution on a rag and keep rubbing it, don't put it on and leave it, yes that will melt it of course. Good luck Les the painterHow do you get gloss paint of the plastic pvc window frames?
DIRTEX
You can buy it in the paint isle of Home depot. Spray it on, let it sit for 30 second and the paint will peel off. Use it all the time in new construction. Won't work with oil based paints.
If someone has deliberately painted the windows then your best bet would be to re-paint with a more favorable color. If someone was just careless and slopped paint on them then try some finger nail polish remover or goof off and a paper towel. It will take a lot of rubbing and try in an inconspicuos spot to ensure that it does not discolor or fuse. Good luck

What is the best way to cover up simi & high gloss paint?
I painted my bathroom 10 years ago. With simi %26amp; high gloss paint. Now I want to change the colors. Can I use a different kind of paint or do I have have to use simi or high gloss to cover it up?What is the best way to cover up simi %26amp; high gloss paint?
If they are semi or high-gloss paints, I assume they are enamel. What you need to do, if you want to use something other than semi or high-gloss again, is to lightly sand the walls (you'll need to 'roughen' the surface so paint will bond over enamel), then re-prime the walls, and I recommend KILZ for this, just because it will bond better than most other primers. Then you can paint over it with anything you want. I DO recommend, however, a good WASHABLE paint, and something that is moisture-resistant. Do NOT use a latex flat--I recommend Satin for bathrooms or kitchens. The worst thing about high-gloss paints and enamels, is they will show EVERY little flaw in the wall-- nail heads, taped joints, etc. If you want more specific advice on any particular paint, simply talk to any employee at your local paint or hardware store. What is the best way to cover up simi %26amp; high gloss paint?
Get a primer and then paint a flat over it, be sure not to try to paint latex over oil because it will not take. Talk to the paint guys at Home Depot for the best information!
Go to Home Depot and ask for T.S.P.
Wash your walls with it then rinse. Allow it to dry. Paint whatever you so desire.
T.S.P removes the shine from the wall allowing any paint to stick to it without having to use primer. Every painter knows this.
I would recommend you use a prime coat then you can put whatever paint on it. Im a painter!
Primer it then paint again. Be sure to atleast use a satin paint to help with moisture.
Use primer paint. Then cover it with whatever color you want.
Lightly sand the walls where the high gloss paint is. If the walls are stained/mildew you MUST clean with a mildew remover first. Wipe any sanding dust off the walls. Let walls dry very well, no showers for at least 12 hours prior to painting. Apply a good quality primer that works for all types of interior paint. Let dry. You can now apply any sheen of paint you wish.
Use a sealer and allow it to dry and then apply the paint you would like to use. Check with home depot for the sealer, by the way the sealer will not allow the original paint color to bleed through.
sand and then use a primer then paint as you like it.
what you can do is paint over with a primer base paint .that will give the new coat a 'tooth' to cling to.i suggest that you have the primer tinted the same shade as the finish coat!

How do I remove gloss paint from a radiator?
I've just moved house and I'm about to start decorating. I've noticed that the previous tenant has painted some of the radiators with gloss paint (in a terrible colour too). What's the best (and hopefully easiest) way to remove gloss paint from the radiators? How do I remove gloss paint from a radiator?
Check out QVC they have a non toxic paint remover on there
http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/a鈥?/a>How do I remove gloss paint from a radiator?
Chemical paint remover
Hi, I run my own new build cleaning company and I do this everyday. Spray tesco value polish on the gloss and leave for 2 or 3 minutes. It should rub off with a cloth or use your nails to scrape of. (radiator should be cold). If this does not work put radiator on a medium heat, spray with b %26amp; Q graffiti cleaner and it should rub off.
cellulose thinners
Blow torch
don't remove it. just prime it with an oil primer and then paimt them whatever color you want but you will still need to use a paint for high heat otherwise it will not stay good for long.
It might be easier to paint over it with a couple of coats of gloss of your choice.
Yes as Penelope says Nitromores paint stripper is best
nitromorse - any good diy shop
You can use a chemical paint stripper or a heat gun. Both are ok (not at the same time though!)
With stripper, you brush it on and wait for the paint to strat to peel and use a smallish stripper/ scraper to strip it off.
With the heat gun, the heat will cause the paint to lose it's grip and you can use the same stripping blade and scraper.
If you go into your local diy store, they will advise you.
Good luck!
A quick edit here!. You could just put a different colour on top?
Either Nitromors or if you have a heat gun it will peel off if heated. Be warned with both methods the paint may have a lead content so you must wear a mask to ensure you don`t inhale lead containing fumes.
Use Nitromors (readily available from suppliers) - USE THE GREEN TIN
you are better to sand off any little nibs then undercoat it then gloss it. it is better doing it like this than removing the paint by nitro morse because it is strong and if it touches your skin or carpets or anything it will burn it. it's less mess painting it
Paint stripper and elbow grease I'm afraid.
You could cheat and sand it down as flat as possible and then paint a good etching primer onto the old paint - then paint white again. The etching primer will acid etch itself to the coating and give a good solid base to paint over - a good hardware store will have it
Go to your local hardware or home improvment store and ask them for a thick paint stripper for the type of paint you are removing. The thicker the stripper the better it will stay on the surface and therefore the better it will work. You can call ahead and talk to someone so you can compare products and prices to other places. A good stripper leaves very little work that you will have to do after. Good luck!
Use any paint removing gel, stronger the better, make sure you put newspaper down to protect the floor.
Paint it on, when the paint bubbles scrape the paint off with a wooden spatchula, easy peasy.

What's the difference between a hair dye and hair gloss treatment?
I understand that dying is supposed to be damaging to your hair, at least a little bit.
But what about getting a gloss -- does that have any negative effects on your hair? What's the difference between a hair dye and hair gloss treatment?
Dye obviously dyes your hair, whereas a gloss treatment seals in your hair actually protecting some damage and breakage. There aren't any negative effects as far as I'm concerned. Gloss isn't permanent though.

Thanks xxxxHow do i get Gloss paint out of fabric???
You might have to take it in to a drycleaners tell them what it is they should be able to help as it s very risky trying to do it Your self as it ight ruin the fabric You wil have to pay but it will be cheaper than replacing themHow do i get Gloss paint out of fabric???
Things You鈥檒l Need:
Turpentine
2 clean sponges
Mild detergent
1 cup luke-warm water
Clean water for rinsing
Hair spray or hand sanitizer
Toothbrush or stiff cleaning brush
Mild detergent
Clean water for rinsing
Remove an Oil-Based Paint Stain
************************
Step1
Clear away any excess paint by scraping or toweling it off. To scrape, use a blunt edged knife or piece of cardboard. Another option is to use a towel to blot the excess away.
Step2
Place a small amount of turpentine on a sponge and blot the paint-stained area. The paint comes out of the fabric and leaves the oily residue of the turpentine solvent behind.
Step3
Add 1 teaspoon mild detergent to 1 cup of lukewarm water and mix.
Step4
Use a clean sponge to blot the previously stained area with the water and detergent mixture to remove the oily solvent residue.
Step5
Rinse the area with clean water.

I've had this problem before and you simply can't get it out. No amount of turps does the trick. All turps does is make the fabric and the room stink and the smell just doesn't go away. Rather than spending hours faffing about with this, whilst getting more and more frustrated, ( I speak from experience) then having to accept defeat I would just resign yourself to the fact that you're not going to be able to conquer this one.

You don't. Once it has set it's like a plastic coating.new hair styles

Any way of getting gloss paint out of carpet?
I used gloss paint over the weekend and I have left a small stain on the carpet. Its hardly noticable but I wondered if there was a way to remove it?Any way of getting gloss paint out of carpet?
There is a product called Goof Off. It will get paint off your carpet without damaging the carpet as long as you follow the instructions. Get a cotton cloth and saturate it with Goof Off, then rub the paint stain. Do not pour Goof Off onto the carpet since it will ruin the backing of the carpet.
I just used this to clean spray paint off my carpet and it worked wonderfully. It also disintegrated my acrylic nails so you might want to wear gloves.Any way of getting gloss paint out of carpet?
You could try turps or white spirit but the carpet won't be as perfect as it was beforehand...
Yes, if the gloss paint is acrylic (i.e. water based), the best way to return the carpet to 'factory' is to shampoo it...however, if you don't have the cash to rent a shampooer, try the soap and water method...a little elbow grease can substitute well here for lack of funds.
';Goof Off'; works well
Be Blessed!
Claim on your insurance they will either clean it or give you a new carpet
if you use paint thinners..some times it ruins carpet..forget about small stain..schitzo
A cloth with hot water is what is required if paint is dry heat with hair dryer or steam from the cloth.
White spirit should do it.
Try some Acetone nail polish remover or GOO GONE remover...both sold at any good drugstore.
White Spirits will take it out, First with a blunt knife scrape a little ,then with an old rag and the spirits rub the stain this should lift it out also rinse with cold water and wash with tepid water and a little of your own shampoo It works just as good as any carpet shampoo
I used paint thinner to get out paint off my carpet. Good Luck
if its small enough use nail scissors to cut tufts
if its bigger than a 50 pence piece use thinners now today quick
I'm not sure if it will do paint... but Halfrauds say Swarfega is also good for getting oil and grease out of carpets.
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store鈥?/a>
i just get a tiny bit of white spirits and a shard knife and scratch it out then wash it i works for me but not a lot of white spirits as can change carpet colour
If its water based paint, soap and water works. If its oil based pain, paint thinner or varsol works. Dry cleaning fluid works too on oil based paints.

Try a pink lip gloss it will be nice on you (use very light colors)
You will find something here.... they have beautiful colors.
www.marykay.com/jfelt
the best color to go with your tone is a light brown color because it's not to bright or to dark it's just right.
A nice glossy pink opal colour would look fabulous on you. Also, a light glossy champagne tone will look great as well.
The best color to fit your skin tone is a light glossy pink, not frosted! But a light pink is perfect and will go with almost anything!
trust me do NOT go with a bright pink youre skin would most likely look good with a light pink ora claer pink
since you have dark skin use dark juicy colors. like deep plums, reds, rich wines, and berries. For a night out use BRIGHT colors like reds, oranges, and fuchsia.( This is actual advice i am giving you. My mom is a cosmotoligist.)

What type of printer can I use to print high gloss quality color flyers?
The ones that you find in the clubs. I am trying to eliminate my middleman and do this from my own home. Money is not an object. What type of printer can I use to print high gloss quality color flyers?
actually, color lasers are not that expensive and when you work out the cost per page, they are cheaper than inkjets not to mention faster and sharper. In my family we have 5 Samsung CLP-300 color laser printer. They are small, fast, sharp and we recently bought a brand new one on ebay for $96 delivered. The toner is $50 for a set of 4 at http://www.ccs-digital.com which may be more than ink but it's good for 2,000 pages. A typical ink cartridge is only good for 200-300. We just replaced out first black toner after a year of regular use. Since lasers burn the toner to the paper with heat, you have to make sure you use paper designed for laser printers. Glossy inkjet paper will probably not work. What type of printer can I use to print high gloss quality color flyers?
Any printer should be able to use the gloss paper. Laser printers give a higher quality print than ink jets but color laser printers are extremely expensive and toner is much more expensive than ink.

Is it OK to Gloss paint the Skirting boards before attaching them to the walls?
I am putting new skirting boards up as I have put in an expensive wooden floor, and instead of attaching the skirting on first before I gloss it for the perfect finish, I was wondering if I could gloss it first and then attach it on the wall.
Also, I do not want to use no more nails to attach the thing - should I nail it on or screw it on? Some of the walls are plasterboard and the exterior walls are cavity walls with plasterboard. Is it OK to Gloss paint the Skirting boards before attaching them to the walls?
easier, then you just touch up where there is scratches etc from the screwing and such,
i'd screw them but make sure on the plasterboard or stud walls you find the joists to attach them to,
mark along the skirts where the joists are , ( pre drill holes in skirt ) sink the screws and fill them!Is it OK to Gloss paint the Skirting boards before attaching them to the walls?
You could prime and undercoat them, but I wouldn't top coat them. As advised, you will still need to fill the holes for whatever fixings you use, and fill any gaps at the top and the corners.
What I would do, to protect your flooring when you do paint them, is to fix them resting on something thin, like cardboard. When removed, this will leave a tiny gap under them. Then, when you top coat them, you can slide a sheet of newspaper underneath to protect the floor.
Yes, that is a good idea. I would use screws, as the skirting is more easily removed if the need ever arose. You can get screws designed to go into plasterboard, ask at your local hardware store.
I've done it so yes! What you need is a counter sink punch to get the nai in clely and below the surface, some plastic wood and thats it. nail it on, fill the hole and paint the spots and job done.
I should think so, clever idea, you'll just have to cover the nail/screw marks. Smarty pants!!
depends how you are fitting them back....Yes if you are going to use 'Hard as Nails' glue....

How do I fix scratches on a table with high gloss finish?
What kind of finish? lacquer, enamel, paint or varnish?.
You may try to sand the scratch off with course and fine sander and buff with soft cloth. Then depend on the finish, you may spray with original material.
I'm just guessing here, mine is solid hardwood, which upon sanding I'll just spray with pledge. It looks fine. Try it if you have same type of table.

How do I get gloss paint off my wooden flooring?
Ive just finsihed glossing my skirting board but seem to have got paint on my wooden flooring. Any easy way I can get it off?
Help!!!How do I get gloss paint off my wooden flooring?
Yes, if it is laminate flooring, soak an old scouring sponge in some white spirit, then just lightly scrub. A brand new one can scratch your floor. Or if it is a big, make sure the paint is as thin as possible (for a spill) mop over with some white spirit, and then scrub with an old scouring pad, and some soapy water.
Make sure you mop your floor afterwards, otherwise it will become very slippy! How do I get gloss paint off my wooden flooring?
I had my bathroom painted some time ago and he got paint on my wooden door. I didn't notice it at the time so I didn't do anything about it. When I had my kitchen re-decorated, I asked the painter/decorator how I could remove it, he suggested scraping it off using my thumb nail. I did this, and it really does come off quite easily, it just takes a long time. See it as a project, half an hour each evening. It will be gone in no time. Hope this helps. (Using chemicals could damage your floor)
White spirits. But make sure you wipe any excess away.
Try a wallpaper steamer as this will soften the paint and you can lift it off with the back of a sharp knife.
IS your wooden floor varnished or bare wood.
Varnished - Stanley knife blade and VERY gently lift the edges and peel.
Bare wood - Stanley Knife blade and drag it BACKWARDS across the paint to skim the paint away or very fine sandpaper.
If only done in last day or two - white spirit may soften it enough to remove it
NEXT time use masking tape or old newspapernew hair styles

If only done in last day or two - white spirit may soften it enough to remove it
NEXT time use masking tape or old newspaper
What is the easiest way to decorate doors using 'gloss' paint?
I have sanded down the doors already but please answer:
Do I need a special gloss brush?
How do I stop the gloss from running?
ThanksWhat is the easiest way to decorate doors using 'gloss' paint?
Use a primer or undercoat.
Don't buy cheap brushes - you will spend half the time picking hairs off the paint.
Spend the extra 拢2 on non-drip gloss - it is worth it.
I normally go for a satinwood finish myself, I think it is easier to get a decent result with it.What is the easiest way to decorate doors using 'gloss' paint?
buy gloss paint and paint away
Get a good quality brush - natural not synthetic. That way, the paint will go on smoother and the bristles won't come out which often happens with cheap brushes.
Use smooth actions in the same direction. The paint only runs if you put too much on so, better keep the coat lighter but do two coats.
The easiest way is to use a gloss roller and a small brush.Just doit nice and easy and dont put on too much at a time..
You need a good brush (2in) make sure surface is clean, don't overload your brush and take your time dont rush it. Or you can get gloss rollers they are easy to use but again you must take your time.
you dont need a special brush just one with good bristles that wont come out ie good quality brush also if i may add if its panneled paint the pannels first then the top middle and bottom horizontals then finish off doing the two verticles on each side this would make it blend better not too much paint on the brush or it will run cheers mal come on the toon
i always put a little washing up liquid and white spirit in a paint kettle add some gloss and stir well..i find you can work with the paint better and its not thick to work with any runs are easier to get rid of.i also use a roller not a brush because of leaving streak marks..hope this helps
have you tried using a roller for gloss paint? I always use one the finish is very good plus you dont use as much paint.
1 coat of Undercoat. Slightly rub down with fine sandpaper. One coat of gloss. No special gloss brush, a one inch is good.
Having been a house painter for a number of years I would say that most are steering you in the right direction. First, start with a quality brush. Some good ones would be a Purdy or Wooster brush. They are available at home improvement stores or paint stores. If you are using a latex paint I would suggest a synthtic or poly blend brush. If your paint is oil based then a natural brisle brush would be the one to use. Since you have already sanded the doors the next step would be to prime the doors. With a gloss paint it is a very important step. If you don't prime correctly then when you apply the paint it will absorb into the door and you will have spots that are not glossy. Use any quality primer for this. It would be a good idea to match the type of paint and primer. Latex or oil based. That way you have the same clean up and you can use the same brush for both the primer and paint. Next is the paint. Use a quality gloss paint. Typically it will cost $25 + per gallon. However, if you are only painting one or two doors a quart would be all you would need. You can do the math. One quart will do about 100 sq. feet. A quality gloss paint will be self-leveling. Meaning, wether you use a brush or roller it will smooth out as it dries which will remove all brush strokes or roller stippling. Small foam rollers would be quick to coat most of the door but you will need a brush to get into the corners of the panels it it has any. You can catch any runs and spread it out before it dries. Just don't apply the paint too liberally. On the flip side, don't be too stingy in application or you will not get proper coverage and you may end up doing multible coats.
Buy a good quality paint pad, then it goes on smooth with no brush marks
firstly buy a good quality gloss paint and a long hired 3'; Hamilton paint brush. To prepare for the gloss you must use a undercoat to go with the gloss two coats and sand between coats as its the preparation that makes the gloss finish look good if its a paneled door coat mouldings first then the panels taking care to softly lay off the paint in the same direction do this with all coats for a perfect finish
buy yourself a small mini roller and gloss sleeve and a decent 2'; brush, lay the doors on two benches, use the brush to cut in any panels and then use the roller to gloss the door, finally use the brush to lightly brush out the ';orange peel '; look, let dry turn over and repeat.
You must undercoat before you gloss, if you don't it will be a crap job.
you will not get a uniformed finish, and it probably will run
cos you have to put it on thickly to cover,
Moral, never gloss on gloss.
My preference is a small roller and decent 2'; brush.Firstly apply paint with the roller and then feather with the brush to remove any bubbles etc,Then stand back and admire your work.
get a gloss rad roller from diy store!
roll the door with it!
then Lay it off with the brush to smooth off the roller effect
It is much quicker this way and it spreads the gloss out to stop run's

Is it better to paint my skirting board with gloss paint after cutting with a mitre saw, to avoid chipping?
I can either gloss paint all of my skirting boards and touch up after cutting with a electric mitre saw, or I could gloss paint each individual piece after being cut to size... the latter takes longer but would I be avoiding gloss paint chips that way? or doesn't gloss chip when cut?Is it better to paint my skirting board with gloss paint after cutting with a mitre saw, to avoid chipping?
with a sharp blade on a mitre saw should be smooth, and make a good cut. However if you aren't using a trim piece to cover the ends, use sand paper, smooth all cut edges to remove any chips or fuzz then paint. If you cut with the finished side up it will show less splintering. The key will be the type blade and its sharpness, and the ease that you push down on wood. I use an 80 tooth carbide blade and finish the trim before cutting. The gloss needs to cure no less than 24 hours before cutting.
Tip on finish; prime bare wood, apply 1 coat of gloss, cut, install, fill nail holes then apply top coat.Is it better to paint my skirting board with gloss paint after cutting with a mitre saw, to avoid chipping?
i'd gloss once on the wall. try and stick as much of the skirting to the wall with pink grip this way no fixing holes to fill and sand. on the external miteres i glue them together first with miter fast . once on the wall run a bead on decorators caulk between the top edge of skirting and wall. undercoat and gloss.
With a sharp mitre saw or chop saw, the paint should not fleck or chip. However, i would get all the skirting on the wall then paint.
Thats the way most tradesmen do it.
You might undercoat it before assembly - priming the back is often a good idea.
Paint the top coat in situ when complete, and all stopping (filling nail holes) etc has been done.
apply skirting to the wall and then you should prime it before anything else then undercoat and finally gloss using 2 coats of undercoat for a nice even base
You've turned into your dad the day you put aside a thin piece of wood
specifically to stir paint with.
measure, cut, install, prime , paint.......

use masking tape where you cut at it will keep from chipping

What products can I use to keep a hi gloss shine on a new ceramic tile floor?
The ceramic tile is in our main entryway, high traffic, I don't know what to use to keep that beautiful shine. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. What products can I use to keep a hi gloss shine on a new ceramic tile floor?
If this tile had a shine when you bought it and it is a glazed or polished finish don't put anything on it! It will maintain that level of shine without surface treatments. It's designed and engineered to. If you put something on top it will not adhere well and will walk off(wear off) in the traffic areas. Use a low pH/non acidic cleaner made for ceramic tile and it will maintain this same look for the life time of the floor. If you choose to wax the floor you are really only creating work for yourself and over time the floor will not look good and be harder to maintain due to wax buildup. Do be sure however to seal the grout. What products can I use to keep a hi gloss shine on a new ceramic tile floor?
Try this, my aunt mops the floor every morning then she applies some wax to the floor and polish it. It really sparkles and you can even see your own reflection. You can buy this wax at the supermarket, I hope it works for you. Good luck.
Mop and Glow is the best product to me.
A RUNNER DOWNT THE ENTRYWAY WILL HELP. TRY MOP%26amp;GLO THAT STUFF ROCKS!!!! MENARDS USE TO CARRY IT. TRY THERE OR HOME DEPOT. IT'S IN A BIG BLUE BOTTLE.

What color lip gloss should i wear if i am wearing a bright orange sun dress?
It is bright , deep orange with some white flowers. im slightly tanned.... what color lip gloss should i wear, more red or pink, dark or light, super shiny or not. I have one of those Ulta 80 piece kits so i have a lot to choose from. ThanksWhat color lip gloss should i wear if i am wearing a bright orange sun dress?
If the dress is a bright, eye-catching color, don't make your lips pop out with a bright color as well or you will look like a clown. Try a more soft pink, or natural tone that is perfect for your lips. Since you are tanned, it will give you a beautiful natural look. Try adding a simple little white flower in your hair as well to finish off the look and you'll be fabulous! What color lip gloss should i wear if i am wearing a bright orange sun dress?
Go with something more natural so the attention stays on the dress. Maybe a very natural shimmery peach or light light pink color.
shimmery light pink/peach
it'd compliment what you described very well
I think a lighter nude/pink color with a slight shine. I think NARS greek holiday would be perfect shade for you.
a darker pink would go best--you should put on a darker pink lipstick and then swipe some clear gloss over it
piiink
use a deep coral color.
a very fine light pink... with a little shine to it.new hair styles

What is the best way to paint over semi gloss paint?
I want to paint over my kitchen walls that are currently painted with a semi gloss paint. What is the best way to paint over semi gloss paint?
Go to your paint store and ask for De-glosser. It comes in gallon containers and you apply it just like if you were washing the walls. Wear gloves and eye protection, and ventilate the room. Then go ahead and paint after 24 hours! Have fun! What is the best way to paint over semi gloss paint?
Was this semi gloss oil based? Most of the time it's water based and if so there is no problem. If you put a water based paint over an oil based paint though it may look good for a while but then it will start cracking and peeling off.
so, if it's oil based, put an oil based paint over it.
sand the walls first then apply a good primer. I always feel it is worth spending more on a good primer as that way your paint will go on well
KITCHEN walls are notoriously harder to deal with because of the light coating of oil on them...
SO! A scrubbing with something like TSP is mandatory and a light sanding like the first Answerer may be required for old and cracked paint.
Next step is a good primer. A lot of people don't understand that primer is not simply a white paint used for color applications...or something (I have heard a lot of weird ideas about what primer is...)
Primer is a medium that is applied to better adhere one paint to another...It is not the same as paint! So a different primer is required for an original existing paint-job that was an oil-based paint to a new latex paint than one that is old latex to new latex.... and there are other considerations...like were there awful things that happened in a house like people and animals dying there so that you need to seal up all surfaces because odors have permeated woods and wallboards?...in that case the only successful paint-jobs require a very expensive primer before any quality paint.
Primer is the key along with the correct amount of surface prep...if you skimp on the beginning stuff it will look Okay but won't last...Nuff said. If you're painting over old paint-Sand...otherwise since it is a kitchen---clean thoroughly before you prime and paint!
prime the walls first and than your finish coat
If the original paint is oil based use an oil based eggshell or similar - if it water based 'vinyl' or 'acrylic' you should be able to recoat with a similar paint. If you are wanting to change from oil based to water - use a matt primer first.
just put a primer over it.and then what you want for a paint you will be all set the primer will hold to any paint you pick.
You'll have to rub them down with sandpaper to make a ';key'; for the new paint to bond to...

What is good color of eye shadow and lip gloss to wear with a black dress?
I am a crossdresser. And tomorrow night I am going to a party dressed as a french maid. What color of lip gloss and eye shadow would look good with my black maids dress? What is good color of eye shadow and lip gloss to wear with a black dress?
A shimmering white or off white eyeshadow would be a great addition on your eyes. The sparkle is nice for the holidays
and the white matches part of the outfit. As for the lips I would
do a red or pink gloss. What is good color of eye shadow and lip gloss to wear with a black dress?
black
Nice dark smokey eyes and bright red lipstick......even a little mole drawn on under your lip...nice.
go with a sheer red lip gloss and a light blue eyeshadow
purple
Gray eye shadow and a RED lip stick ;)
red lipstick and white eye shadow
I think with a dress like that, a light lavender eyeshadow with some shimmer in it would be perfect. That would look gorgueous. With the lipgloss I would stick either with a clear shade, or a suble pink shade. That would be my best advice for you.
Smokey black cat eye on top and bottom lashes and add fake lashes for pizzazz effect (go to smashbox.com to see the model on the homepage to get the idea I'm going for). Since you're eyes are already dramatic, you can't go wrong with a glossy nude shade or if you want to be extremely dramatic then go for a luscious glossy red!
anything! i would add color to my eyes since the dress is black, maybe a blue or jade color? as for the lips, be fun, maybe a shade of red?
WHat color are your eyes, i would do a light red/mauve eye shadow with a tiny hint of tan it looks really good. and a glossy pink lip gloss. have fun, and WORK IT GIRLLLLL!!!!!!!!!
Either Catlike eyeliner and red lipstick, or smokey eyes %26amp; nude lipstick.
bright red will make it stand out a lot.
Try lip gloss that will stay with you and not fade as fast and shimmer eye shadow i would go for whatever color your eyes are and play it up from lites to dark!! Have a Blast!! good luck!!

What's the difference between lip balm and lip gloss?
I was just wondering, because they seem to have a difference. What I don't know is, what the hell is their difference? What's the difference between lip balm and lip gloss?
Lip balm is used to keep your lips soft and often to protect from the sun's rays. It is usually more solid than lip gloss.
Lip gloss is used to add shine and/or colour to the lips.
But there are balms that act like gloss and glosses that act like balms. They're both useful.
I usually use a lip balm followed by a lip gloss! What's the difference between lip balm and lip gloss?
Lip balm is a balm, like a chap stick, or vaseline, its used to heel sore, chapped, splitting lips, or just keep lips in good condtion and moisturized, i never leave the house without my vaseline, lol
and yea, lip gloss, is a from of lip colour, i.e in the way lip stick tends to be a matte block of colour, lip gloss is the same but really shiny, the colous thend to be more translucent,
Lip balm or lip salve is a substance topically applied to the lips of the mouth to relieve chapped or dry lips Lip gloss is similar in the fact that it is topically applied to the lips of the mouth, but generally has only cosmetic properties.
Lip balm is designed to minimise dryness of the lips by forming a barrier between your lips and the environment. Lip gloss is a cosmetic which serves the purpose of making your lips look shiny and more attractive.
lip balm is like chap stick. It's purpose is to not let the lips become dry and ';chappy'; with the skin very dry.
lip gloss, is used for what some people would call vanity. it makes you lips more shiny and makes you look more attractive.
LI{ BALM IS JUST A LIP PROTECTOR AND LIP GLOSS IS SHINY AND GLOSSY AND IS ALSO A LIP PROTECTOR SO THE LIP GLOSS IS MUCH BETTER!!!
Lip balm is to hydrate your lips and keep them from getting chapped/help heal chapped lips.
Lip gloss is exactly that, glosses your lips. Does nothing but make it shiny.
The lip balm is like chap stick and lip gloss is shinny and glossy. Also lip gloss is better.
lip balm has a matt finish
lip gloss is shiny

What's the difference between Vaseline and lip gloss in terms of appearance?
My school is a non-makeup school, but I've just been a bit confused over the difference between Vaseline and lip gloss in appearence-they will let you have Vaseline but not lip-gloss.What's the difference between Vaseline and lip gloss in terms of appearance?
Vaseline isn't as shiny and softens and helps chapped lips. Whereas lip gloss if purely for beauty
xWhat's the difference between Vaseline and lip gloss in terms of appearance?
Vaseline is more moisterizing and lip gloss is just like vaseline but there r lots of other kinds of lip gloss, such as plumping, etc. What I would do is take some vaseline, and a drop of lipgloss and mix them together, that way it will be like lip gloss, but not exactly lip gloss, so if a teacher says, is that lip gloss, you can b like to it vaseline. And u can also take vaseline and but a TINY bit of food coloring into the vaseline.
As far as how it looks, lip gloss looks a little shinier than Vaseline (if you're talking about clear gloss), and sometimes there is color and glitter in lip gloss. I'm pretty sure you could get away with a clear gloss or something super sheer and naturally colored.
Vaseline: It sooths your lips e.g. if you have cracked lips. And its also adds moisture to them.
Lip Gloss: I consider this more of a going out make-up as it can make you lips more fuller and very glossy.
Vaseline is more of a everyday care for you lips.
:)
xx
Vaseline can be classed under 'medical' because it's like a moisture for your lips, and a treatment for dry %26amp; cracked lips - probably why they allow it. Vaseline is my staple though! I love it, use it way more than I use lippy/gloss
Lip gloss contains a colour, so you can tint your lips a different colour as well as making them look shiny and protecting them. Vaseline just protects and makes them shiny (so it is great if you like the colour of your lips)
Vaseline is plain white which helps to protect your lips from damage or getting dried
Lip gloss can be any colour and its usally used to highlight the colour of your lips and make it shinny ;)
hope this helped xxxx
lip gloss would be classed as makeup.
vaseline would be classed as medical use, remoisten lips, provent chapped lips.
thats why they allowd it, nothing to do with how it looks.
Vaseline takes care of your skin and makes your lips look natural but lip gloss i suppose leaves a colour tint and makes your lips look shiny and glossy
Vaseline helps your lips but doesn't give it a glossy look more of a greasy where as lip gloss don't help or destroy the lips lol but gives your lips a shine and even a shimmer to making them look fuller
wouldnt vasaline poisen you!?
A non make-up school? Omg I would kill myself.

Is semi gloss paint the best choice for a 4 year olds room and when I paint?
being the walls are already white and in great shape do I have to use a primer? Is semi gloss paint the best choice for a 4 year olds room and when I paint?
they have specific kids room paint available, it's washable and durable. 1 gallon should be fine as long as you're not trying to cover up a darker color or if your color is very dark it will take a couple coats. Is semi gloss paint the best choice for a 4 year olds room and when I paint?
First of all if the walls are shiny you will need to lightly sand it. Then prime it and then paint it.
Please be careful not to use regular paint on your childs room. You need to use a odorless paint and NO EG on it like for example EcoShield which is made from Dunn Edwards Paints is considered the best since it is always used in hospitals and schools. One gallon wil do around 350sq ft. depends if you roll, brush or spray.
Also remember that semi gloss is only used on bathrooms and kitchens. You can go one step lower and go with eggshell or low sheen.
Semi glosss is only the shiney surface. It will wash good. You shouldnt need to prime unless you are covering stains. one gallon will probably cover the room if its just a small bedroom. Too much is not better. Just get good coverage.

What are some good eye shadow and lipstick/ gloss brands that are good and not very expensive?
I love mac cosmetics, especially their eye shadows, but I'm a college student and I really need to invest wisely. So I was wondering what are some good cosmetics that have as much color and variety as mac does and aren't quite so costly. What are some good eye shadow and lipstick/ gloss brands that are good and not very expensive?
hey I know that the ones that just stand alone from MAC Cosmetics run around 15.00 dollars a piece. I know Mary Kay runs about 6.50 a shade depending and they have this new thing called the compact pro which includes most of your cosmetics needs. you can check it out on my website as well as anything else. I hope I helped some.
I know many people associate Mary kay with the older generation but I guess I'm what you consider an artsy person. I lover photography and any type of art you through my way especially when it comes to makeup so I have to have fun with it.. and you can still do that with mary kay...so no worries there. What are some good eye shadow and lipstick/ gloss brands that are good and not very expensive?
A very good eyeshadow brand I know is NYX - their shadows last a long time, color looks great, and they have as much color selection as most department store brands. [$3-4 for single shadows, $3 for cream eyeshadow pencil, and $6 for a trio]
For lipstick, I like Maybelline's MoistureExtreme Lipstick - It actually is moisturizing and smells like watermelon [not a strong smell either, more like a light, delicate scent]. ($6-7 depending on where you get it)
As for lip gloss, I love LOVE Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lip glosses, they're very sheer, super shiny, and lasts the whole day. The only downside is that they are a bit sticky than I like lip gloss to be. If that doesn't cut it, CoverGirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers is great too, but it's more watery and does not last as long.
Revlon, Cover Girl, and L'Oreal are really good staples. Also, if you're looking for other less expensive cosmetics, check out Drugstore Diva--you can get the brand name looks on the cheap.

Eyeshadow: L'Oreal HIP
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks
Lipgloss: Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush, Neutrogena, Maybelline, Revlon
hope i hlpd :]
J.Lynne Cosmetics has all natural eye shadows (60 different shades in 3 finishes -- matte, luminous, and sparkly) and all natural lip glosses in 14 shades.
Thses following brands have very good highly pigmented products, like MAC does:
loreal HIP [drustore brand]
NYX [drugstore]
ulta brand eyeshadows [u can get these at ulta.com or Ulta stores]
Rimmel underground [drugstores]
Maybelline eyeshadow and Covergirl wetslicks lipgloss
I think we all can agree that lipstick is very expensive. I got mine from this site, for free. Try it out!

What is the best way to get gloss paint off a plastered wall?
It's an old house, the wall is plastered and then there is wallpaper, lining paper then another layer of wallpaper then the gloss. It's torture trying to get the gloss off, I need to remove it before I attack the other layers of paper. Don't know why they glossed the walls, must have been a nutter who did it!What is the best way to get gloss paint off a plastered wall?
steam stripper, score the paint first though.

use a heat gun and you'll be done sometime around your 80th birthday stripping all that crap off I would just lift the paper with the paint and all. Or put paneling over the whole thing and let the next guy deal with it.
rip, ding ,cuckoo, sounds like my old place, yibadee
Paint Stripper.... you use a heat gun or steamer and you will expand the top layer of plaster......its old...and it will blow off....

Furniture polish maybe, but I have not found anything that will leave a hgih gloss finish. When it dries it goes flat looking again. Good luck.

What's the difference between Envirotex lite gloss and Easy Cast Clear resin?
I want to make some pendants but do you have to use the easy cast resin or can you use something like envirotex to make it? They look the same but are they? Thank you! What's the difference between Envirotex lite gloss and Easy Cast Clear resin?
Both of the resins you mentioned are ';epoxy'; resins (the other main type of resin used for art/craft is ';polyester'; resin).
';Easy Cast'; is a fairly new epoxy resin that's a bit different from most regular epoxy resins (like Envirotex Lite, Ultra Glo, etc.).
Easy Cast has been formulated to be clearer when it's cast in molds deeper than 1/4'; or so than regular epoxy resin would be, and it has little or no odor... however, Easy Cast also cures a bit soft on the surface, and it's somewhat flexible if it's not really thick (those qualities show up more if the piece is warmed later--next to the body, in a pocket, etc).
So generally, if you want to ';cast'; resin in a mold (with a craft-type resin), you'll want to use a polyester resin. It will be clear everywhere it was NOT in contact with the air while curing which in a mold will usually be the back side of the cast piece. Polyester resins** are less ';good'; for one's lungs and skin though than epoxy resins.
**brands of polyester resin include:
Clear Polyester Casting Resin, with Catalyst (by Castin' Craft, ETI)
Lam-A-Cast Crystal Clear Casting Resin, with catalyst (same manuf.?)
Aristocrat's Casting Resin (not Aristocrat's Liquid Glass, which is an epoxy resin)
Clear-Lite Casting Resin (from Tap Plastics)
If you want to cast in a shallow mold however (probably with a release), or if you want to fill up a small ';cell'; permanently (e.g., in a tiny frame, over a picture, etc), or if you want to very-thickly coat something with a high gloss finish, then you'll want to use a regular epoxy resin. It will cure hard and clear on the surfaces exposed to the air, and maybe non-air surfaces too. (There would be no reason in those situations to have to accept the disadvantages of Easy Cast.)
There's loads more info on both types of resin, how to mix and apply them, color them, embed things in them, links to video lessons, etc., on this page at my site if you want to check it out:

Semi-gloss paint for the interior - what is the difference between enamels and latex?
I first painted with latex paint and tried to put on 2nd coat with enamel I got bubbles why?Semi-gloss paint for the interior - what is the difference between enamels and latex?
Latex: water based, you can wash your brushes with water, clean off any mistakes quickly with water, etc.
Enamel: you need paint thinner for all clean up. It is based on some kind of oil, water won't touch it.
As far as I have experienced, both work very well, so I always use Latex (after it dries, no problem, even with strenuous water washing.Semi-gloss paint for the interior - what is the difference between enamels and latex?
the above answer is correct as you tried to paint oil over latex, let it dry ,sand out the bubbles, then spackle them if needed, and get a latex enamel and paint the topcoat with that ,you should used an oil based primer ,then you would have been fine as you can paint latex over oil, but not the opposite....painting contractor

What is the best color of lipstick/gloss for a 14 yr old?
I usually always wear like clears, light pastel pinks, corals, caramel-tans with a hint of pinks and stuff like that but never red. I will never wear red. I want to find a color to satisfy me that I will stick with, so what would look best on a 14 yr old with chocolate-brown hair, medium/light (light caramel) skin color, and brown eyes. What is the best color of lipstick/gloss for a 14 yr old?
it is very important that you hydrate your lips and wear a sunscreen on them. Try to find a lip-stain/chap-stick with SPF in it. I love Vincent Longo's Lipstain Lipstick SPF 15 in ';Foolish Virgin.'; Another great product is Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15, it doesn't have any color to it but it makes your lips soft, satiny and a little shiny. If you want a gloss, try The Balm's BalmShelter SPF 17 Tinted Gloss in ';Girl Next Door.'; I also love Benefit's Silky-Finish Lipstick in ';Skinny Dip,'; it is like a lipstick and lip-gloss in one. It is neutral and makes your lips really nice and silky but the only problem is that it doesn't have an SPF in it. But it is still great. Also try it in ';Nice Knickers'; if the ';Skinny Dip'; is a little too light for your skin tone.
the links for all these products are below! and the great thing with Sephora is that, if you buy something and don't like the color after you already used it, they will let you return it!
Please contact for more info, i am a makeup expert. What is the best color of lipstick/gloss for a 14 yr old?
i have skin and hair almost like yours and you're right, red is way too extreme. I say use neutral colors on a daily basis and only use pink and shimmer only if your outfit is particularly bright or colorful. and if neutrals are too boring for you, get a gloss that has a slightly gold tint. i got this really great one from MAC that has a gold tint to it and it looks really nice with the warm tones of my skin and hair. It will make your face look summery and divine(that sounds corny but its true)
I think the colors you're using right now are great. You don't want to use colors that are too obvious because they kind of have a more formal look to them.
Clear lip gloss with sparkles, light pinks, and you could try that metallic looking lip gloss for more shine
At your age, you should stick with a gloss. Matte lipsticks will just age you. You should stick with ultra slick %26amp; shiny pale pinks for daytime. If you're going out at night, maybe punch it up with a deeper, shiny berry color (doesn't have to be red!!!)
cherry chapstick
i usually wear clear, just cause i like it.
i use clear with sparkles

At your age, you should stick with a gloss. Matte lipsticks will just age you. You should stick with ultra slick %26amp; shiny pale pinks for daytime. If you're going out at night, maybe punch it up with a deeper, shiny berry color (doesn't have to be red!!!)
cherry chapstick
i usually wear clear, just cause i like it.
i use clear with sparkles
What gloss or lib balm os good for my sensitive lips?
I have dry lips but wehn i use anything like carmex or a gloss it either has an allergic reaction or the skin peels. So what should I use???What gloss or lib balm os good for my sensitive lips?
Use Blistex. They have lip ointment in which the consistency is like a gloss or their Herbal Answer lip balm w/spf15. I only tried the herbal one and it's really good in moisturizing and softening my lips. Neutrogena is good. So is smackers and its gentle because its marketed for children, Although I have every flavor lol lol
SMACKERS! it smells good!
You may be allergic to lanolin. Lanolin is from sheeps, and some people are allergic to it. Check lip balms for this ingredient before you buy. I like the chap stick brand Chap Stick-- it comes in a black and white simple tube and is very moisturizing with no harsh ingredients or scents. You should be able to find it at the grocery store near the checkout.
I used to take a medicine that made my skin and lips extra dry, and the only thing that worked for my lips was Neosporin LT (lip treatment). I've been using it for at least a year now, and I really like it because it doesn't have a strong smell like Burt's Bees does (or at least some kinds do), it is not greasy or sticky, and it works really well. Hope this helps!
i would go with burt's bees.they have awesome lip products.
maybe you can try a lip butter...those can be found at the body shop
use something that is all-natural. try chapstick brand lip butter, it's really moisturizing :)
I like Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. Vaseline is good too.
Aveeno lip balm. Aveeno is a brand of toiletries that can be found at Target/ Wal-Mart, that is known for being gentle. Aveeno is great for people with allergies and/or sensitive skin.

How long does it take for high gloss oil based paint to dry?
I have painted my window frames in a high gloss white enamel paint. The paint is oil based. How long should it take to dry. I painted 12 hours ago and it is still wet to touch and very sticky. How long does it take for high gloss oil based paint to dry?
FOREVER ...lol. It'll be sticky or tacky for a couple of days;)How long does it take for high gloss oil based paint to dry?
Depends, somewhat, on the temperature and humidity level, but generally at least 24-48 hours to dry to the touch and about 30 days to completely ';cure'; or harden.
Oil-based paint takes a lot longer to dry than latex (water-based) paint, but it is much more durable in the long run and better-suited to applications such as window/door frames and baseboards, trim, etc ... places that get a lot of wear.
What does the label say? Maybe you painted over something without priming it first.
If so you will have to remove the paint,; prime then repaint.
I had a trunk I painted red without priming it and it never did dry after two weeks.
I was so disgusted I put it on my back porch to dry and it still didn*t dry.
Usually about a day, some paints take longer than others...
I would have went with latex paint though.....

My favorite right now is Lip Smackers Lip Frosting in Milk Chocolate. My b/f even likes it and he usually hates glossy lips. It use to be Maybelline Shinilicious in Chocolat Cherry, but this tastes better. What is your favorite flavour of lip gloss?

Is it safe to sell people lip gloss that was made a year ago?
I have a lot of lip gloss left over that I made for the Christmas craft fair last year. It has natural oils and a perservative which is liquid germall. It's been sealed in containers that were santized with boiling water before filling. Is it okay to sell it or could there be killer bacteria growing in there after a year? They are popular with little kids so I don't want to take unneccessary risks. Is it safe to sell people lip gloss that was made a year ago?
When in doubt, make more ;-) Don't take the risk... although personally I keep makeup far longer than I'm supposed to and it's never bothered me.Is it safe to sell people lip gloss that was made a year ago?
Well, sometimes it gfets expired. Actually, you can tell when it is. Try to smell the lip gloss or see if it is sticky. If it is, then its expried. I don't think it will be but like you said don't take risk
Hope it Helped:D

How would I get pink-red lip gloss out of my new white coat?
I got this very nice North Face white coat for my birthday, and the other day I was in Sephora, and I managed to get three little dabs of lip gloss on my coat.
The coat is like a grided material.
Is there any way that I can fully get the lip gloss out? I haven't washed it out yet, because I didn't know if that would sink the color in more.
Many thanks,
sophieHow would I get pink-red lip gloss out of my new white coat?
Don't use bleach....even if the coat is white, you might end up with whiter spots than you had. The bleach pens are a better idea, as is the Dawn...
Just don't dry the coat in the dryer until all the stain is gone. You shouldn't need to if it's only little stains. Heat sets most stains...
If you can wash the coat, treat the stains and then wash on cold with regular detergent. If there are any bits of stain, then don't dry it...treat them again. How would I get pink-red lip gloss out of my new white coat?
Since it is grease based, try Dawn dish soap. Don't use very much at all because you don't want to have suds. Dab it on and scrub it in and then with a wet warm cloth, dab at it until you get all the soap and stain out.
theres this oxyclean spray at the store you can buy if its not too much trouble. It got ink out of my dads pants! Just make sure you read the directions and work fast! LET IT SOAK 4 A WHILE!!! Dont you just hate stains? Good luck!
Tgry one of the ';tide-to-go'; pens with bleach...I find it works on almost any fabric! Good luck and Happy Holidays!
get eather oxiclean spray...or the detergent and soak it
have you tried to put club soda on it. club soda works on getting red wine out of white shirts its worth a try.
tide to go, mini version. or tide to go wipes. they both work fantastic. got gatorade out of my white terry cloth purse
Stop cruising elementary schools for chicks.

How do you achieve a brilliant paint gloss sheen on a door for instance?
I know it involves like 7 coats but I cant find it online. thanksHow do you achieve a brilliant paint gloss sheen on a door for instance?
To start with, it helps to have a ';high gloss finish'; paint. It's nearly impossible to get a good shine from a ';flat finish'; paint.
Consider adding 1 or 2 coats of polyeurathane on top of the paint. (Should only need 2 coats of paint, 3 at most.)How do you achieve a brilliant paint gloss sheen on a door for instance?
you need to ensure all old paint is removed with sand paper. Then rub down the door using some WET n DRY paper with water, literally wet the paper, then when real smooth apply your primer, better quality = better finish, its also a good idea to invest in a purpose made gloss brush, again the better quality = better finish. Then rub down the primer with WET n DRY paper, wait till dry then apply the undercoat, When dry, rub down with yup, WET n DRY, apply 2 coats if needed. Rubbing between coats. When dry apply a good quality top coat, Rubbing down between coats. The more coats you apply the thicker the finish. Not necessarily shinier, couple of coats should be sufficient.
If you're after a smooth finish use a thick primer for the under coat to fill the gaps in the wooden grain. Sand it down to a smooth finish using a fine sander (electric job). Then like the person said use spray paint (but not the graffiti stuff), there's proper industrial paints to do that.
To do a proper job of it - if it's the out facing front door - you need a lot many coats because it will eventually start to chip after a year or so. Let the paint dry between sprays / layers.
If you want to put a final seal on it you can using a hard wearing laquer varnish.
But it's all up to you.
It's a long process, and the door becomes quite heavy!
Prep your door by light sanding and then wipe off dust/ dirt. Use a good grade primer such as Zinser123. Apply with a paint sprayer if you have one. If not, use a foam type'; super smooth'; roller cover. After primer has dried, use a high gloss interior paint (I'm assuming this is an interior door; otherwise use semi-gloss exterior paint for exterior). Apply with a paint sprayer; if not...a foam super smooth roller. Two applications may be necessary if using light paint. Once dried, you can almost see your reflection.
(including your prep with a primer, this would be a 2-3 application process)
good luck
pay a professional if you want a brilliant finish.you will never do it.they have the training and years of practice.hope this helps
Spraying the door would provide a brushless finish. The doors you buy that are ready painted are most likely sprayed or dipped

What is a safe way to remove gloss paint?
I want to strip some wood work but I think that some of the gloss on it may contain lead.
Can anyone tell me a safe way to do this please? What is a safe way to remove gloss paint?
I used a heat gun and wore a protective mask. My wooden stairs had so many layers of paint (going back to the Victorian times) and there had to of been lead paint used over the years. What is a safe way to remove gloss paint?
just use a good paint stripper !!!!!!!!!!!!
Paint stripper, a paint scrapper, sandpaper and A MASK.
There isn't any way to remove it safely.
Nitromors, if you can still get it.
i would also recommend Nitromors, you CAN still get this and the new formula makes it kind to wood.
do not brush it on though, its a dab and remove stripper, otherwise lines may appear, its dead easy though.
I have seen some great wood work done on removing paint from doors and window seals. If you take your time and use gloves and put a mask on to protect yourself you can use a paint remover gel and strip it away.
Get a dremel tool and grind on the tight spots.
If you do it right, you can make your wood look brand new. test your skills and go to work and if you fail, buy a new wood:)
check yellow pages for local sandblaster
Do you have to remove or can,t you paint over it .If not just get some paint stripper
From the website listed below...
Safety rules for removing lead-based paint
Protect Your Family:
Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should try to avoid exposure to lead. If your home is going to be significantly contaminated with lead dust during renovations, you should consider moving pre-school children and pregnant women elsewhere until the work is done.
Protect Yourself:
Wear appropriate protective clothing such as coveralls, goggles, gloves, and most importantly, a NIOSH (U.S. National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) approved respirator for dust, mist, and fumes to reduce the possible intake of lead dust. Consult your local safety equipment dealer. Don't eat, drink, or smoke in an area where paint is being removed.
Prepare the Area:
Remove drapes, rugs, and furniture from the area. Cover the objects that can't be moved, including the floor, with heavy plastic. Seal heating vents used for both supply and return. Protect the entrance to the working area with plastic to contain dust. Use a water spray with a small amount of detergent to wet all surfaces and to contain any dust during renovations or cleanup. If working outdoors, use drop sheets to catch any paint scrapings, and don't work on windy days.
Make sure children and pets are not in the area. Cover windows and doors with plastic to keep scrapings and dust out of the house.
Use Safe Stripping Techniques:
Use techniques that don't disperse lead dust or fumes. Chemical stripping produces the least amount of lead dust. As chemical stripping agents also contain potentially harmful substances, they must be used with care. Mechanical removal through sanding or grinding produces more lead dust.
Don't Spread the Dust Around:
Remove protective clothing and footwear whenever you leave the work area. Wash work clothes separately from other laundry, or discard them when you're finished.
Do a Daily Cleanup:
At the end of each day, wetting the dust and wet-wiping will help cleanup and prevent the dispersion of dust. Put all waste in a secure container or sealed plastic bag. Wash your hands and face once your work is done and before entering a clean area.
Do a Final Cleanup:
Wait at least one day after completing work to let any dust settle, then do a final cleanup. Wet wipe all surfaces, and dispose of any plastic enclosures to avoid generating dust. Place in a sealed plastic bag.
Move.

How do you prepare a surface for gloss paint?
If the surfaces (doors, architraves and skirting boards) are already painted with gloss/silk how are they prepared if you just want to paint gloss on top? Do you need to just sand down and wash? Do you need an undercoat if you just use the one-coat gloss? Will one-coat gloss adhere to unsanded painted doors? Is it best to use a roller rather than a brush?
Thanks. How do you prepare a surface for gloss paint?
To do a good job, you will first have to sand the area to roughen up the area. Sanding gives the paint something to stick to. Then you should apply a good quality primer. and then finally a coat or two of you gloss paint. Use a paint brush for this particular job, rollers are better for walls and ceilings. Paint will not adhere good to any glossy surfaces, it will just peel away. How do you prepare a surface for gloss paint?
Just clean the surface with a mixture of bleach and hot water and use the same basic kind of paint that's on there already (latex over latex, or oil over oil) and it should adhere without needing to sand (bleach easily softens and dulls old paint finishes to make them tacky and improves adhesion). There's no need to undercoat with a primer unless the old paint is a completely different color or if there are a lot of areas where the old paint has come off the wood.
you need to get some decent sand paper, ie the aluminium oxide paper that you can buy from any d.i.y shop, sand down the woodwork so that they are really smooth, make sure that ypu dust down the skirts and frames before painting as the dust tends to stick to them.
Apply one coat of undercoat and when this is dry give the frames another light sand, this removes any dust.
You don't need to use one coat gloss, normal gloss will be fine, personally i've stopped using gloss as the finish doesn't stay white very long due to the oil content in the gloss - i use water based satin, there's no smell and easy to apply and stays white for years, the only downside is that you need to apply a few coats to get a professional finish
rub down the skirting/architrave with p240 grit aluminium oxide paper (fine grit paper equivalent) if the surface is in good order and just needs a repaint.
All you want to do is remove the sheen of the old gloss and give the new gloss a key to stick too, then dust of the surface and wipe with a clean damp cloth
You don't need to undercoat as the old paint will act as this and as long as you haven't rubbed to hard and have bare wood showing your good to repaint over this, i would use dulux non drip gloss its excellent paint, its very easy to use and you will get hardly any runs which are always possible with gloss. you only give gloss one coat, you cant gloss over gloss as someone has said it wont stick very well, gloss is the last stage in painting you only paint an area once with gloss never give it a second coat this is wrong.
If your surface is in poor condition like lose flaky paint and needs filling you will find that undercoating first then glossing will give you a better finish
to apply gloss i use a 4in mini roller with a sponge sleeve/head and a good quality brush, i apply the paint to the surface with the roller to get an even coverage (this way you reduce the chance of too much paint in one area and the dreaded runs), i then ';lay it off'; with the brush (go over), if I'm painting a large area with gloss like a door its easier to paint it in sections
sandpaper
sand all surfaces lightly, wipe down, paint. no primer necessary. you will most likely use more than one coat of paint so go ahead and be prepared and buy extra.
hope this helps. :)
A light sanding, just enough to give the new paint something to key to. It's also worth washing down with Sugar Soap (from any DIY store) which gets rid of grease that can reject paint.
Depending on your surface you shouldn't need to undercoat (unless its really bad and to get it smooth you have to take it back to bear wood or unless you are making a major colour change).
I wouldn't use a roller and I also think standard high gloss paint as opposed to non drip can give a better finish but you do need a bit more care when painting.
It's a lovely day, why not go for a walk and think about it!
rub down then under coat, light rub down again before glossing, that one coat gloss is ok but loses its shine far to soon in my opinion
Sand down, undercoat (if you can be bothered) and then gloss with a good quality brush.
you can probably get away with sanding with a fairly fine sand paper (gently) then painting, as i guess your trying to be quick.
To do it properly sand it al medium then fine papers, then prime it, hten undercoat twice, then gloss twice. That gives the real lustrous shine to gloss.
Make sure you brush off the sanding dust else it will mess up the paint

What goes on the walls before semi gloss paint to prevent peeling?
We just recently had a friend paint our bedrooms and bathroom. One side of the bathroom wall started peeling. My six year old helped the process along but I have got that area totally peeled and prepped to be painted again. But what do I paint the wall with or prep it with before I put on the off white semi-gloss paint so it will not peel again? What goes on the walls before semi gloss paint to prevent peeling?
If the wall is very slick, you may need to sand it, but a coat of primer first - Kilz is a common brand - should take care of the problem.

Give me as much detail as you can wjoever is reading this, thanks a bunch. How do you get a high gloss finish on a stock of a rifle?
There are a couple of things you can use. I personally like Tru-oil--my dad introduced me to it 40 years ago. The key to a high gloss finish is preparation. The way I learned was to sand smooth, polish with steel wool, lightly water then lightly scrape with a broken piece of glass until the wood was ';glassy smooth';. Anyway--I'm going to include a link to a guitar finishing site that has very detailed instructions. I scrolled through them and they look like they're good. The second link is to another site (also guitar finishing) that I thought might be interesting. Tru-oil isn't the toughest or the glossiest finish out there, but if you scratch it, it is repaired with relative ease. How do you get a high gloss finish on a stock of a rifle?
Oil finishes are not high gloss, that's what militaries used to use and the last thing they wanted was gloss.
I have refinished several stocks and after staining, used a high gloss poly spray like Minwax spray high gloss Polyurethane. For the best results sand using finer and finer sandpaper, then spray several light coats. Let dry a day, buff with fine steel wool and spray again. Do this 4 or 5 times and you have a deep hard gloss finish that looks professional.
Use linseed oil and rub it into the stock. This is a long slow process, but the shine is well worth the effort. All quality rifles and shot guns use this process.
Several coats of Polyurethane.
Well you could do it the easy way and use a High Gloss poly urethane finish or if you want the traditional high gloss finish it is called a ';French Polish';. It is essentially multiple thin coats of shellac applied with a cloth soaked in boil linseed oil. It takes weeks to accomplish and it can take days to dry between coats but is magnificent when done right.
There are some commercial preparations (which I have never tried) that are supposed to come real close Just put ';French Polish'; you should get instructions about doing it the real way and a number of commercial preparations which should come close.
in your search engine.
I have a German 8mm Mauser, sporterized for hunting(Sorry military firearms collectors!). I had it laminated, and it has quite a shine and glow to it.
